After a long and inspiring summer including a wonderful trip to the Venice Biennale, Tatar Art Projects is back and busier than ever. With new artwork in the studio and too many projects to write about, we are excited and geared up for another creative and productive year.
Last week marked the opening of IIDEX, Canada’s largest Design Exposition & Conference with Klaus throwing a party to celebrate the launch of Tom Dixon’s newest line of lighting and products. This preview party was Dixon’s first showcase in Canada. IIDEX presents the best and brightest in Interior Design and Architecture - and we were there taking in some of the great talks and perusing the newest design products. As a gallery and bespoke studio, we continue to pursue the best and newest in art and design, and IIDEX 2011 was as inspiring as ever.
With so much attention on design we’ve renewed our collection for the fall season with fresh new works and installations to complement the amazing new furniture featured at Klaus. With some new collaborations in the works, we have brought in two richly painted cityscapes by local painter Ryan Dineen (Show and Tell Gallery) and a new wildly energetic but contained painting by Gary Evans (Paul Petro Gallery ). We’ve also added a brand new installation by the local artist Rob Southcott, and work from our inspiring roster of artists including sculptor Paul Elia, multi-media artist Harley Valentine (Shinan’s pick for 30 under 30) and architectonic works by Adriene Veninger.
With the summer behind us we are back to a very busy season of programs and projects. Stay tuned to WOT for the latest on the world of art and design and a sneak peak into the exciting projects we are working on. I’ll be sending out reports via Twitter @tatartalks. Follow my anecdotes from Los Angeles and the launch of the first Art Platform Los Angeles Art Fair and Pacific Standard Time, a survey of the California contemporary art scene from 1945-1960. More than 50 institutions will be participating in this state-wide event including LACMA, The Getty Museum and Geffen Contemporary. That will be followed by the tenth anniversary of Frieze Art Fair in London, England from Oct 13 - 19.
