With such an expansive and diverse landscape, and a population to match – Los Angeles is certainly one of the contemporary art hubs of the world. A long history of artistic tradition, subversion, and display has made this busy city a go-to destination for the best and brightest in the art world. I am heading there this week to check out the Art Los Angeles Contemporary Art Fair – only in its second year, this fair looks to be promising with over 70 galleries from around the world exhibiting within the giant Barker Hanger in Santa Monica.
Tatar Art Projects has an exciting and ever growing social media presence, to take advantage of the up to the minute exclusives and anecdotes about the world of art and design, I encourage you to join both our Facebook Group and Twitter feed where I will be keeping you up to date on my journey, starting with a dispatch from the Soho House in West Hollywood.
Los Angeles is home to a remarkably high number of practicing artists and world-renowned institutions, galleries, and art schools, it is a cultural breeding ground with a long history of art practice – making it the perfect location for ALAC. Participants in the fair showcase some of the most dynamic recent works from their roster of represented artists, offering an informed cross section of what is happening now in contemporary art making, ALAC is owned and operated by the MMPI group, this is same group that operates the Toronto International Art Fair, currently in its 12th year. My sources tell me that they will soon add The Armory and Volta to their portfolio of art fairs.
